It is with great pleasure that MEKIC invites you to an evening with Mariam Behnam, Sina Bathaie and Leionn Belmont for an escape in song and music into the poetic universe of Rumi and Omar Khayyam.
Originally from Iran, Mariam Behnam has been exploring various musical currents since her youth. Her passion for music initially pushed her to familiarize herself first with classical and flamenco music, then with the resonances of jazz and the sonorities of t folk and experimental music. Having moved to Canada in 2007 she is devoted entirely to her singing career. She sings and composes in Persian, French and English.
Winner of the second prize for his performance on the santur at the Festival of Music of Teheran in 2007, Sina Bathaie is a musician with multiple talents. He is a master in playing santur and got the instruction for playing oud, tonbak and setar for several years. Founder of the Sabokbal ensemble, Sina has been granted several first prizes in various national festivals.
The musician Leionn Belmont is an atypical and surprising explorer. He uses both the cumbus, a Turkish stringed instrument as well as the arcana, an instrument originating in Asheville, North Carolina, whose sounds are similar to those of the sitar or the mandolin. Native of Charleston, South Carolina, United States Leionn travels the world in order to initiate himself with a set of most varied instruments.
We hope to see you among us, on Friday, July 30 at 7h pm.
